Wood I Covers safety, basic shop drawing use of layout tools, and use of most power equipment. General understanding of woods and related materials, abrasives, finishes and adhesives is obtained from their use and related information. Advanced Wood Construction Importance is placed on developing more skill with materials, portable power tools and machines used in their first year of shop. Increased understanding of the capabilities and limitations of all the power equipment, as well as techniques for more rapid or mass-produced and more accurate work is stressed. Emphasis is also placed on developing more skill, self-reliance and understanding in designing and planning projects. Work is primarily related to furniture and cabinet-making, but individual students may direct their projects toward other related activities such as lathe work or boat building. Students should develop basic entry-level skills for related occupations, as well as vocational interests.
