   In the Sophomore year students extend writing skills, reinforcing research documentation, practicing personal, reflective, and literary  essays, and beginning the persuasive essay. Numerous in-class timed writing practices prepare students for the CAHSEE and provide early practice for the SAT. A complete program  for advanced vocabulary development through study of roots is an important sophomore element, as are resumé writing and career exploration In each year, Independent Reading programs are an important part of the English curriculum.Through use of selected poetry, articles, essays, and media, sophomore English examines themes of Social Justice and personal moral development.
