California Multimedia Festival Honors Mr. Tucker
Mr. Tucker's World History class project on the effects of Imperialism in Africa, was chosen as an award winner in the Social Studies category in the California Multimedia Festival  Hundreds of high schols from all over California participated this year.  Click here to visit the project website.

History Department 2010 MERIT Projects
Mr. Martin and Mr. Tucker took part in the MERIT Technology Grant supported by the Sonoma Education Foundation.  Both created technology based projects to help implement technology into the curriculum. Click to the left to see a sample student project. Past participants of the MERIT and EWYL Program from the department include Mr. Fichman, Mrs. Weissmann, and Mr. Gibson. 
26th Annual Vietnam Veterans Presentation
Thanks to the organizing efforts of Mr. Martin, for the 26th year in a row, SVHS US History students have been honored by hearing from Veterans in our community from the Vietnam, Persian Gulf, and War on Terror.  Our department is grateful for our guest speakers giving up there time, and for their service to our country.
SVHS Students Participate in International Economic Summit
Both Mr. Gibson's US History class and Ms. Luchessi's Entrepenuership classes took part in the first county wide International Economic Summit, where students simulate global trade.  Click here to read the full article. 

Mrs. Weissmann Leads Another Successful Every 15 Minutes
Along with the help of our school resource officer Deputy Matt Reagan, for the 3rd time in the last 8 years, Mrs. Weissmann and SVHS students organized one of the most powerful events ever held at SVHS. AP World & US History Added for 2010-2011 School Year
For the first time ever, our department is offering both Advanced Placement World History and Advanced Placement US History in the Fall of 2010. Both classes will give students the opportunity to earn college credit. Mr. Gibson will be teaching both classes in the fall.
Three Cups of Tea Presentation
In the spring of 2009, both Mr. Fichman and Mr. Tucker took their Honors World History classes to hear from one of the authors of the critically acclaimed book "Three Cups of Tea".  Co-author Greg Mortenson spoke to SVHS and others from the Bay Area in Marin. 
Earth Club Leads Recycling Charge
For the last several years, Mr. Gissell has been the faculty advisor of the Earth Club, a student lead organization dedicated to turning SVHS into the greenest campus possible.  For more information on how to join the Earth Club, please click here.
Mr. Donnelley Featured in Press Democrat
In 2008, Mr. Donnelley was featured in a front page article in the Press Democrat, which highlighted individuals who became teachers after successful experiences in other fields.  Click here to read the full article.
Mr. Gibson Honored by Sonoma Education Foundation
In 2008, Mr. Gibson received an Outstanding Teacher Award at the annual Salute to Education, hosted by the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation.  Four additional teachers from SVUSD were also honored.  Click here to read the full article.
